On the 20th of June 2025 in Padua, Italy, the late Professor Alessandra Murgia and her life’s work were celebrated at the International Workshop on Fragile X Syndrome organised by Prof. Giorgio Perilongo with the help of Motore Sanita, in the beautiful Palazzo Bo. The workshop was followed by a regional meeting on the 21st of June at the University of Padua Children’s Hospital. 

Professor Alessandra Murgia, who recently passed away leaving behind a legacy of helping improve the knowledge and care of children and families living with FXS, was honoured at the International Workshop on FXS in Padua. Prof. Murgia was one of Fragile X International’s scientific Advisors, and very active in our community.

The event was attended by internationally renowned experts who, like Professor Murgia, have dedicated their lives to achieving full social inclusion and improved clinical understanding of those living with FXS. Key points of discussion included the need for broader research, diagnosing and understanding mosaicism, investigation into innovative biomarkers and therapies, international cooperation and clinical models of delivering multidisciplinary care to individuals with FXS. 

A follow-up regional meeting of the Associazione Italiana Sindrome ‘X-fragile’ was held on the 21st of June, where various groups from 11 regions in Italy came together to discuss exciting initiatives. You can learn more about the Italian Fragile X Syndrome Association овде.
